Jobs
Our group works in a vibrant research environment as part of the Queensland Digital Health Center, ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Biotechnology, the Queensland Decarbonization Alliance, and the IBM-affiliated quantum working group for Healthcare and Lifesciences (HCLS).
Please email qatheorygroup@gmail.com for any enquiries about the upcoming roles below. All roles are based in St. Lucia campus of the University of Queensland (UQ) in Brisbane, Australia.
We will post the UQ’s Job Application Links for all of the roles here as soon as these links become available.
Supervisory teams for any position will adjusted to suit the candidate and the technical project, but the primary supervisors are listed below.
Level A or B Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow (Fixed Term, 30 months), School of Physics and Mathematics
This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow to contribute to a two-year quantum algorithms program, affiliated with Queensland Digital Health Center and the Queensland Decarbonization Alliance. The ideal candidate will drive algorithms development in quantum optimization for health and quantum sampling for molecular simulations.
This role has a strongly preferred immediate start date and will be jointly supervised by Associate Professor Shrapnel and Dr. Gupta.
We welcome all applicants with completion or near completion of a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Computer Science, with demonstrated research quality and creativity.
Full Ph.D Position, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
The Ph.D project will focus on quantum algorithms development in the nascent fault-tolerant regime where modest levels of error correction can be assumed. Attention to regimes in which noise mitigation techniques can be combined with error correction will be of significant interest. Use case development will focus on molecular simulations and material science.
This Ph.D project will be supervised by Dr. Gupta. We welcome all international or domestic students with a strong track record in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Computer Science.
Note that a hiring link for this Ph.D position will be made available shortly and does not require candidates to apply via the UQ Graduate School.
Ph.D Top Up Scholarships (via UQ Graduate School)
We welcome domestic students or international students who have applied, or are thinking of applying, with the UQ Graduate Office to discuss their application with us and apply for our group’s top up scholarships.
Note that the candidate must apply via the UQ Graduate office.
A strong track record in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Computer Science, and/or any undergraduate coursework with quantum information and/or mathematics background courses preferable.
Ph.D Top Up Scholarship, School of Mathematics and Physics
The Ph.D project will focus on quantum optimization and quantum sampling algorithm for health use-cases. This project is suited to HDR candidates who are able to start no later than mid 2026 and will be jointly supervised by Associate Professor Shrapnel and Dr. Gupta.
